An acutely ischaemic hand in a young adult due to subclavian artery aneurysm (SAA) caused by a cervical rib: A case report

چکیده
INTRODUCTION True subclavian artery aneurysms are relatively rare lesions. Thoracic outlet compression is responsible for 75% of aneurysms. They are formed as a result of compression by, for example a cervical rib. CASE PRESENTATION We present a case of subclavian artery aneurysm secondary to a cervical rib in a 25-year-old young Asian adult, who presented with an acutely ischaemic upper limb. A Computed Tomography angiogram revealed a right sided cervical rib and sacular aneurysm in the mid-portion of the subclavian artery. CONCLUSION Although it is a rare condition, it is important to be aware especially in the young age group. Surgical management has very favourable outcomes in these patients.

Critical Upper Limb Ischemia Due to Brachial Tourniquet in Misdiagnosed Thoracic Outlet Syndrome after Carpal Tunnel Decompression: A Case Report
We present the case of a 68-year-old woman, referred to our department for critical upper limb ischemia, which had occurred a few days after homolateral surgical ligamentotomy for carpal tunnel syndrome, diagnosed and confirmed by electromyography, and performed with a brachial tourniquet. The patient was later admitted for subsequent progressive necrosis of the first three fingers of the left ...
متن کاملThe Case Report of Variation in Subclavian Branches
The Subclavian artery is a major branch of the Aorta. In the left the subclavian artery arises from aortic arch, and in the right it arises from the Brachiocephalic trunk This artery passes from the subclavian groove on the first rib and continues as Axillary artery. The Subclavian artery has several branches that supply chest wall, Thyroid gland and cervical region. Several variations about th...

Non-traumatic aneurysms ofthe subclavian artery are rare. The reported cases have been due to compression from cervical ribs (Steinberg, 1964), syphilis (Muller, 1935; Daniel, 1951), atherosclerosis (McCallen and Schaff, 1956; Richards and Elliott, 1957; Bjork, 1965), contiguous tuberculous lesions (Moloney, 1955; Hara and Bransford, 1963), and congenital defects in the arterial wall (Perry and...
متن کاملA Retroesophageal Right Subclavian Artery as the Last Branch of the Aortic Arch- In Vivo Case Report
Three major arteries normally originate from the aortic arch. Variations of the aortic arch branches are observed in some cases. Rare variation of the aortic arch branches is originated from the retroesophageal right subclavian (RRS) artery as the last branch of the aortic arch. Variation of artery is possibly associated with the variation of the recurrent laryngeal nerve. This research p...
متن کاملExercise induced critical ischaemia of the upper limb secondary to a cervical rib.
The case is reported of a 32 year old woman with acute on chronic upper limb ischaemia due to thrombus from a cervical rib that had compressed the right subclavian artery of her dominant hand after use of a rowing machine. If not detected early, this condition can be debilitating especially in the young. A multidisciplinary approach is advisable to ensure a satisfactory outcome.
